Cladding Repairs and Replacement IN MELBOURNE
Damaged or deteriorating cladding doesn’t just look bad from the outside. It can let moisture into your walls, drive up your energy bills, and become a costly problem if it’s left too long. Whether it’s a few boards that need replacing or an entire wall that’s had its day, O’Shea Trades can help.
We’ve been working on Melbourne homes since 1978, and cladding is one of those jobs where experience matters.
Getting the materials right, matching what’s already there, managing the surrounding structure and services carefully is more involved than it looks from the street.
Repairs vs. Full Replacement:
What’s the Right Call?

Not every cladding problem needs a full replacement, and we’ll always tell you if a targeted repair is the better option.
Repairs make sense when the damage is localised. A handful of boards split by impact, a small section that’s rotted at the base, or a few panels that have come away from the wall. We match the material and profile as closely as possible so the repair blends in.
Replacement is the better move when damage is widespread, when the cladding is at the end of its service life, or when the underlying structure has been compromised. If there’s moisture in the wall framing behind the cladding, that needs to be dealt with properly before anything goes back on, and we’ll flag it if we find it.

Fixed Pricing for Cladding Repairs and Replacement
You’ll get a fixed quote before we start. If we open up a wall section and find something unexpected (like rotted framing, or old insulation that needs to come out) we’ll talk to you about it before we proceed.
That’s how we’ve operated for over 48 years.

Fully Licensed
and Insured
All cladding work is carried out by licenced tradespeople. O’Shea Trades holds the relevant building licences and registrations, and every job is properly insured. If you’re getting quotes from multiple trades, it’s worth asking the others the same question.

What We Work On
Melbourne homes come in all shapes and eras, and so does the cladding on them. Our team works across:
-
Timber cladding: Weatherboards, shiplap, and hardwood or treated softwood profiles. Common on older and heritage homes, and still a popular choice for extensions and new builds.
-
Fibre cement: Widely used in Melbourne homes from the 1980s onwards. Durable when it’s intact, but it can crack, blister, or delaminate over time and often needs careful handling during removal.
-
Aluminium and metal cladding: Increasingly common on modern homes and commercial properties. We repair damaged panels and replace sections that have corroded, buckled, or been knocked out of alignment.
Where asbestos eave sheeting is involved, removal is handled in line with current Victorian regulations before new sheeting goes in.
If you’re not sure what type of cladding you have or what condition it’s actually in, we can take a look and give you a straight answer.
Period Homes and Heritage Properties
A lot of Melbourne’s older homes, particularly in the inner suburbs, have original timber weatherboard cladding that’s worth preserving or restoring rather than replacing with something different. We work carefully on these properties, sourcing timber profiles that match the originals where possible and taking a considered approach to what stays and what goes.
If you’re on a heritage overlay or have specific requirements around materials, let us know upfront and we’ll factor that into the assessment.

What the job Involves?

That’s just one of the reasons we’re particular about how we work. Proper preparation, correct fixing methods, quality finishes.
